There's been a mixed reaction to the doubling of charges at Sainsbury's for plastic bags to 20p - with some calling it 'daylight robbery'.
The decision follows a trial in Wales earlier this year. Profits will continue going to good causes.
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “We have updated the price of our Bags for Life to encourage customers to re-use their bags.
"This is part of our ongoing commitment to help reduce the amount of plastic that’s used and we continue to donate the profits to good causes.
"We are trialling this across our store estate to test the customer response and welcome customer feedback.”
One shopper responded online with: 'I get ‘saving the planet’. So offer a paper bag alternatively at 10p, stop profiteering from my forgetfulness!'
Another added: 'You're right, you will cut Sainsbury's plastic consumption as I won't be shopping there anymore.'
Others thought the increase was 'fair' and backed the change.
