The traditional plastic window has been scrapped under a new packaging design by Pukka pies which will save 11.4 tonnes of plastic each year.
The firm says the plastic free changes are the 'right thing to do' as it unveils a new design made from Forest Stewardship Council-certified cardboard.
The 'Hot Pie category' is worth £244 million across total retail outlet UK sales, with Pukka accounting for £36 million of that each year.
Pukka spokesperson Rachel Cranston said it 'marks an important step towards achieving even greater sustainability across our bakery' adding that is 'the right thing to do'.
She said: “Our own research shows that the new look will attract even more shoppers to the Hot
Pies fixture in-store and we’ve included a ‘coming soon’ teaser on packs to let people know the change is coming.”
Pukka’s new packaging will roll into retailers nationwide throughout January 2020.
